Rigel Klingman

Originally from the United States, Rigel is a writer and multi-media photographer whose work increasingly concentrates on blending the written with the visual as a way to further explore the politics of living. After obtaining her BA in English in 2001, Rigel went on to become a regular performer with Dream Engine, a musically backed spoken word group, and the long running Pure Kona Reading Series in Rochester, NY. There, three award-winning novelists also adopted her where she took on an informal (but rigorous) several year apprenticeship in the craft and psychology of writing. This apprenticeship not only gave her insight into the ins and outs of writing, but also provided in-depth knowledge of the publishing industry.

After taking time to help co-found an NGO working in Zambia, Deaf Education and Arts for African Families, she turned her attention to photography. In 2009 she received her MA in Photojournalism from the University of Westminster, London, and currently works in photography and multimedia with Award Winning Photojournalist Hazel Thompson, Scarlet (a Creative Change Agency based in LA), and periodically with the British Council.

Her work has appeared in HazMat Literary Review, Lake Affect Magazine, and After Image Magazine. Rigel was also a recipient for a Strategic Opportunity Stipend from the New York State Arts Council for an exhibition entitled “Visions of Africa”. Rigel currently resides in London and is in the process of completing her second Novel entitled “Dying into Life”.
